Kandy to the coast - the road that sometimes wasn't..

Leaving Kandy and fighting the mid morning craziness on the road, we decided to get off the Kandy-Colombo main road as soon as we possibly could!! That main road is simply chaos..

We took the road from Kegalle south and, whilst still busy, it was much nicer. The road wound through the mountains and we even got a sneak peak of Adam’s peak!! Although we didn’t stop to take a picture.. sorry..

Still wanting quieter roads, we eventually found ourselves on roads that barely existed.

Ahh.. peace at last..

Still, in a country with a population nearly as big as Australia, crammed into a landmass the size of Tasmania – you are never ever really alone… There is always a house, or a tuktuk, or a random person walking in what seems like the middle of nowhere.. I’m sure the locals were all thinking that we were lost! Why would anybody chose to take the bumpy local roads when they could drive on the super crowded main roads afterall??

After about 5 hours of driving, we eventually hit the south coast, just south of Colombo. We were hoping to have the energy to keep heading south in search of some seclusion, but, instead, stopped at the first sight of the ocean in a town called Wadduwa.

The beach was okay, and the hotel was horrible (the worst sleep we’ve ever had!!) but the Ayurvedic resort next door was lovely and the staff were nice enough to let us use the swimming pool for free!! Needless to say Gypsy had the time of her life! She just loves swimming so much.

And so finally, we are at the beach! Time to slow down and relax…
