Batty about Batti..

Batticaloa, or Batti, as the locals say, is yet another example of how weird Roh and I must be. Literally every town the guidebooks say to bypass as it's boring/ugly etc, we LOVE! And the places the book raves about, ie Mirissa, Tangalle etc, were just OK for us.. lol

Batti is the city of parks. There are just soooo many parks everywhere you look!

Our guesthouse was located right on the lagoon, and had a huge park with lots of picnic benches and even a children's playground! Such a beautiful place!

We went exploring and found some beaches. Unfortunately we also found lots of reminders of the Tsunami..

And some reminders of how trashed the planet is...

Just north of Batti are the beautiful beaches of Kalkudah and Passikudah. Passikudah is quite touristy and is covered in one hotel after the next. But Kalkudah, literally only around a point away is beautiful, peaceful, and so so quiet. We had a lovely early morning swim, and probably could have gone naked if we wanted! There was literally noone around!

Even further north, we found even more beautiful beaches! Varkarai beach was so beautiful and unspolit. Just a small fishing town. Just perfect.

And of course, wherever there are locals, Gypsy is likely to get kidnapped..

Thankfully this time she wasn't given any more chocolate!!

Still beautiful seems very peaceful, but I can not get past the fact that Gypsy gets more like your Dad everyday. Love
