The guidebooks don’t really rate Chandigarh too highly, but we, being the weird people we are, LOVED it! It’s such a wonderful place to take a child!
It’s a new city, designed and built on a grid system. We stayed in sector 22, which turned out to be toy shop land. Each sector is full of parks and footpaths and it's just so easy to get around! And clean!
Seeing as we were in toyshop land, we decided to let Gypsy play with all the toys that we can't carry in our backpack!! She especially LOVED the bikes!!
Chandigarh is also famous for it's "Rock garden". We decided to do a half day tour on the Chandigarh tourist bus (50 rupees each! An absolute bargain!) and visited a couple of gardens, and a museum on the way to the garden.
The museum was actually super interesting!

The rock garden was really fun! It was created by an eccentric guy who was overwhelmed by the amount of trash he was seeing, so he started making things from the trash! It's since been turned into a kind of amusement park and is apparently the second most popular attraction in India after the Taj Mahal! It was definitely super interesting!
Overall we really enjoyed our time in Chandigarh! It was such a nice reprieve from the madness of India. It was great to have footpaths, and things in an orderly fashion! It was so easy to get things done!
BUT, a word of warning. It's expensive there. Accommodation is really expensive and nowhere has wifi. It was sometimes a challenge finding normal priced food as well. But still a nice, easy place to break up a long trip.
