There is some weird stuff in Outback Australia….

A tree decorated with vegemite jars?!?

Picture
WHY?

A tree decorated with shoes!?!

Picture
WHY?!

A tree decorated in baby car seats?!?!

Picture
WHY!?! And What happened to the babies??

Termite mounds dressed in clothing!?!

Picture
WHY?

Who starts these things, and who sees a vegemite jar on a tree and thinks, “that’s brilliant!” I’m totally going to waste my jar and put it up there too!!”

I . Just. Don’t. Get. It.

Some people really do have too much time on their hands

Dressing termite mounds started as a public arts project aimed at preventing single vehicle accidents from boredom and fatigue. Some trippers returning to NT take op shop stuff to dress a few and join in. In other places road clean up gangs hung up as lost property - who tosses out a baby seat on the road? Maintained now by passing travellers lightening their load.

For 2 years (2015-2017) we travelled around Australia as a family of 3 in a motorhome named NED. These are stories from our adventures.
